For the very first time, the Bolshoi star ballet dancer Svetlana Zakharova and the "tsar" of the violin Vadim Repin will perform together on the first two evenings of the St Prex Classics festival, which was made possible thanks to the support of the Neva Foundation.
Despite being husband and wife, they have never appeared together on stage. Here they will be accompanied by the Stradivari Ensemble under the direction of maestro Mikhail Rappoport. "Dance", Paulo Coelho wrote in his book The Pilgrimage, "is one of the most perfect forms of communication with the infinite intelligence." It is enough to see Svetlana Zakharova dance to be convinced; she is grace and refinement personified. As for Vadim Repin, he needs no introduction; he is one of the most talented violinists on the international circuit. Yehudi Menuhin once said of him: "He is simply the best and the most perfect violinist that I have ever heard."
Le Cygne (or The Swan) by Saint-Saëns, The Carnival of Venice by Paganini, Carmen Fantaisie by Waxman and other beautiful musical compositions will be performed on these two exceptional evenings.
This openning towards Russia is also a tribute to Diaghilev, who had the talent to bring together artists from different backgrounds, as the St Prex Classics does today.
The concert will take place in the sumptuous setting of a small medieval village on the shores of Geneva Lake under the Luna, an absolutely magical stage infrastructure, constructed by the EPFL.
